The town of Mammoth Lakes is situated in Mono County, in
California's stunning Eastern Sierra Nevada Mountains. Mammoth
is a 4-seasons resort town, but is primarily known for its
fantastic skiing. The base elevation of Mammoth is approximately
8000 feet, but the summit of Mammoth Mountain itself is over
11,000 feet above sea level. In the winter, ski enthusiasts
come from all over the world to work and play at Mammoth Mountain.
With an average snowfall of around 32 feet, winter lasts from
November to June, with skiing often extending into early July!
But with 300 sunny days on average for this area, skiing or
snowboarding are not the only ways to have fun in Mammoth.
There is plenty of sightseeing to be done, miles and miles
of snowmobile and cross country ski trails, a terrific bike
park up at the Mountain, fishing - in lake or stream, hiking,
kayaking, canoeing, ice skating, skateboarding, and the list
goes on and on
Mammoth Lakes was incorporated in 1984, but has a long history
dating back to the mining days in the 1800's. Mammoth's early
days were forged by tough pioneering types, when traveling
to this remote location from Los Angeles took days instead
of hours. Soon, regular air service from Southern California
will be a reality, and it will be a much quicker trip. Getting
here has not been half the fun - even if the trip has
some of the world's most beautiful scenery!
Currently Mammoth Lakes has around 7300 residents. But on
holidays or weekends, 35,000 people may come to recreate here.
Residency is not limited to the town of Mammoth Lakes. Many
surrounding settlements, such as Crowley Lake/Hilton Creek,
Swall Meadows, and Sunny Slopes all house people who make
up our population and permanent work force. For those people
who do not care to live in the snowy climate, the drive up
from Bishop, or down from June Lake or Lee Vining is not unthinkable.
Wherever you choose to live in the area, whether permanently
or only on your vacation, Mammoth has something to offer.
If you decide to purchase a primary or secondary residence
in this area, I hope that you will contact me and let me be
your guide to finding your perfect place here in the beautiful
Eastern Sierra. Mammoth is NANCY DAVIDSON COUNTRY!
