Information Your Real Estate Agent Knows that Might Surprise You

Information Agents KnowEven if you chose a real estate agent to help you purchase a home or sell the one you have, you may not be utilizing their knowledge and experience wisely. You’d be surprised at all the ways they can help you through the process beyond just showing properties and negotiating contracts (though those are two important skills as well).

Listen to Their Advice

Real estate agents, especially those with years of experience, have seen it all. They understand the trends in the market and how to capitalize on a good deal. They also understand the emotional pull of some homes and the confusion when you can’t decide what you want in a property.

Take advantage of their knowledge and ask for their advice. Let them suggest a property for you to see even if it’s not what you think you’re looking for. Listen to their words of wisdom because chances are pretty good that they’ve seen someone just like you before.

Access Their Resources

Your agent will have a list of home inspectors and appraisers to use during the home-buying or selling process. However, they also know the best repair people, remodeling contractors and moving companies. Agents network with these industries which overlap with real estate. They get referrals from former clients on the best companies to work with and those to avoid.

If you’re trying to sell your home and need to make a few updates, your agent will most likely be able to provide you with a list of general contractors or interior designers who will work within your budget. Don’t be afraid to ask your real estate agent for referrals as you move through the process.

Agents know the neighborhoods, which can be important if you’re moving to a new area. Ask them their opinions about the best restaurants, parks and retail stores to help you get settled in an unfamiliar area.

Let Them Fight for You

Your agent is part of your team. You are their priority. They are looking out for your best interests when the lender or other party is focused on their own concerns. Your agent will work to keep the process moving even if they have to constantly call the lender or the other agent to meet deadlines.

Don’t feel like you have to bear the burden of buying or selling your home on your own. When you hire a real estate agent to represent you, they will be your strongest advocate and supporter.
