Bridgeport Fish Fest

The Bridgeport fish fest is this weekend, July 30^th – 31^st. In addition to the tournament, enjoy activities for the whole family, live music, and amazing prizes!

F.A.T.I.T. (Finest Annual Trout Invitational Tournament)

The F.A.T.I.T. will take place Friday, June 11^th and Saturday, June 12^th at Crowley Lake along with a banquet on Saturday at the County Fairgrounds. The banquet will also have a raffle with proceeds going toward the Los Alamitos Historical Museum Association, The Ronald McDonald House, The American Heart Association, and the restocking of fish in Crowley Lake. This Year’s first place price will be $500.

Closing Day of Fishing Season in Mono County

Sunday, November 15^th is closing day for fishing season in Mono County. After this day, winter fishing regulations will be in effect. There are still great spots for year-round catch and release fishing with barbless artificial flies and lures only. Check out the following for year-round catch and release fishing:

East Walker River
West Walker River
Hot Creek
Upper Owens River

Be sure to get your final fishing moments in before this Sunday other wise check out the above places for great catch and release fishing.

Mono County Free Fishing Day

September 5^th is free fishing day in Mono County! This is only one of two days out of the year that you can fish without a sport fishing license. Free Fishing Days provide a great, low-cost way to give fishing a try. While all fishing regulations, such as bag and size limits, gear restrictions, report card requirements, fishing hours and stream closures remain in effect, there are two days each year when anyone can fish without purchasing a fishing license.

Closing Day of Fishing Season in Mono County

Just a reminder, today is the last day of open fishing in Mono County! At all other times of year, if you wish to fish in Mono County, there are several bodies of water where CATCH-AND-RELEASE ONLY is permitted year-round on public lands with barbless artificial flies and lures only. This includes: East Walker River, which begins out of Bridgeport Reservoir and heads out Hwy. 182; West Walker River, which parallels Highway 395 through Walker and Coleville, one mile north of the Highway 108 turnoff, to the Topaz Lake inlet; Hot Creek; east of Mammoth Lakes and ideal for all skill levels of fly fishing – Hot Creek is 0 take year round. (Barbless flies only, no lures or baits allowed.)

31st Annual Kids Fishing Festival

Do you have a future fisherman or fisherwoman in the family? Then be sure to check out the 31st Annual Kids Fishing Festival this Saturday, July 28th from 8 AM to 1 PM at Snow Creek Ponds. This event is FREE for children 14 and under, and rods and reels are provided. Fisheries staff from the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (DFW) will be available to lend a hand and teach children a little about California’s trout fisheries. Every child will receive their own California Fishing Passport and fish identification book. Catch a fish and get special passport stamps in your book! Fishing guides from the Eastern Sierra and Aguabonita FlyFishing Club in Ridgecrest will also be available to help and instruct. Aguabonita is catching the pond’s aquatic insects and bringing microscopes so the kids can learn about entomology and the food sources for trout. There will also be fly tying lessons so the kids can make a fly, put it on their rods, practice fly casting with our expert guides, and then catch a trout!
